• Recruitment & Employment News: Hiring Down During Olympics

    Date: 8 August, 2012 | Author: | Category: Recruitment & Employment News

Is it the Olympics? The news of the double dip recession? News today shows that retail sales growth slowed in July and manufacturing completely tumbled in July. But what’s happening in the recruitment world?

Staff recruitment numbers were higher in June than July this year as businesses and hiring managers start to show more signs of caution when it comes to hiring new staff. Choosing to defer hiring opportunities until after the Olympics period is over. According to a survey for the Report on Jobs produced by Markit and sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG.

Findings also indicate that recruitment agencies have had a fall in permanent placements. Interestingly though, the greatest drop in job placements by location was in the capital. Perhaps an indication of the disruption within the business community that the Olympic Games is having?

Further to that, hiring of temporary staff fell for the 8th month in a row but the decline also slowed from June.
